Other World Computing (OWC) and Axiotron teamed up to create the Modbook, a MacBook converted into a tablet computer. It was unveiled at Macworld 2007 and finally began shipping to users just before Macworld 2008. Built by hand, the Modbook costs $1,200 more than the MacBook, has the same screen resolution and other hardware specifications, and has a touch screen that's fully supported by Mac OS X and Inkwell.
In addition to the touch screen, which has higher contrast than the stock MacBook screen, this is the first Mac with built-in GPS support.
The Modbook is available in the same configurations as the white MacBook:
- 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Combo drive, 80 GB 5400 rpm hard drive, 1 GB RAM, Intel X3100 graphics, built-in iSight, and a 1280 x 800 display.
- 2.16 GHz, dual-layer SuperDrive, 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB RAM, otherwise identical specs to above.
