New Life for Old Lenses
- 2011.06.07
My new Olympus E-P1 is a marvelous toy (see My New Camera, an Olympus Pen E-P1).
But wait, there's more! With the proper adapter, it allows the use of my "old" Olympus OM lenses.
There are some caveats, however. The OM lenses will not autofocus. (Of course, they never did.) This means that you have to focus on the LCD screen, which would be improved if I ever got a new prescription for my glasses.
With OM lenses, the camera's metering system only works in aperture priority mode, but when you cut your photographic teeth on external light meters, that's not a big deal. The main thing to me is being able to use old equipment with new equipment.
This shot was taken with an OM 35mm f/2 lens (equivalent to a 70 mm for the E-P1).
This one was shot with my OM 50mm f/3.5 macro.
The 50mm macro lens also focuses down to one-half life size.
