The following Mac freeware and shareware programs for the classic Mac OS are available for download. Alternate links are hosted on our eMac (#1) and Power Mac (#2), and they may not be available 24/7.

• Address Book 4.2.4, shareware, $30. A great program for storing addresses, printing envelopes and address books, etc. We are no longer able to locate jimsmithsoft.com on the Web. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• Disinfectant 3.7.1, freeware. Antivirus software. 240K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• EMMpathy 2.1 (VST Power Systems), freeware. Battery reconditioning for the intelligent battery in the "Blackbird" (PowerBook 500 series). 184K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• FreePPP (Rockstar Software), freeware. Take total control of your PPP connection. Requires 68020 or later CPU, System 7.1 to 9.x, and MacTCP 2.0.6 or Open Transport. 807K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• GURU 2.9, freeware, Guide to Mac memory upgrades. 216K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• MenuChoice 2.1, shareware, $15. A much faster and more flexible alternative to Apple Menu Items. Requires System 7 to 9.x. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• MountImage 1.2, freeware (?). Allows you to mount disk images. May damage image files. 20K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• PopChar Lite 2.7.2, freeware. Gives you a pulldown window displaying the entire character set in your current font. This one has been hard to find. Requires System 7 to 9.x. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2. Also a download link on Pure Mac.
• Pseud040, $20 shareware. Lets you run programs that require a 68040 on Macs with a 68020 or 68030 - I've even heard Mac OS 8.1 running on a IIsi. 120K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• Redux (PPC) 2.6.2, freeware. Well known, long discontinued backup program. Requires PowerPC. 344K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• ResetPwrMgr, freeware. Resets the power manager on PowerBooks, which sometimes gets messed up. Forces a restart, so save your work and quit all apps before using it. Only works with PowerBook 1400 and earlier. 8K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
• Wish I Were, freeware. Changes the gestalt ID of your Mac. Unlike Pseud040, you specify what Mac your pretends to be. 20K. Alternate link 1, alternate link 2.
