now owns NeXT, who "cubed" long before Cobalt (right). - Opinion: An apology to the rumor sites - this time, Rodney O. Lain, Mac Observer, 7/28. "Even after having given the devil his due, I still believe that the rumor sites are a bastardization of good reporting and good journalism."
- Benchmark: First lab test: Dual-processor Power Macs, Macworld, 7/28. "...two 450MHz processors do excel at tasks in applications designed to take advantage of the second processor." Duh - but does it help anything else?
- Consumer: Apple Store offers killer deals for students and educators, Insanely Great Mac, 7/28. Great deals for students and staff. (Homeschoolers click here for information on how you can buy at a discount.)
- Overview: New PowerBook upgrades, Ceolaf, PowerBook Source, 7/27.
- Humor? Motorola: Wanted dead or alive, MacEdition, 7/27. Motorola accused of violating Moore's law, which predicts doubling of performance every 18 months. The G4/450 shipped last August, so we should be somewhere around 700 MHz today. Sigh.
- Consumer: Best PowerBook, iBook deals, PowerBook Central, 7/27. Also link for DVD kits for WallStreet PowerBook G3.
- Hands on: First taste of Newer Tech G3 WallStreet upgrade, PowerBook Zone, 7/27. Beta tester reports improved speed, battery life.

- Consumer: Get a keyboard extender for your new G4, Go2Mac.com, 7/26. Pro Keyboard cable to short for G4 users, but Apple has a free USB extension cable.
- News: Dual processor G4 optimized apps on the way, Dennis Seller, MacCentral, 7/26. "The same app that is preemptively multithreaded with one processor using the MPLib will automatically become preemptively multithreaded and multiprocessor aware on a multiprocessor machine...."
- Analysis: The right Mac for business, Paul Shield, The Business Mac. "With the new Macs announced last week, it is again appropriate to consider the question of which Mac is right for the typical business user."
- News: XLR8 announces OS X compatibility for upgrades, Applelinks, 7/26. Carrier ZIF, MACh Carrier, and MACh Speed upgrades will work with OS X. (Just waiting for Newer to make the same promise....)
- News: High-tech firms agree to instant-messaging compatibility, Fresno Bee, 7/26 [Mac Observer]. "Conspicuously missing from the list of participating companies is [AOL]."
- Analysis: For whom?, Ceolaf, MacinThoughts, 7/25. Who is the Cube for?
- OS: Mac OS X Server 1.2 not compatible with G4 MP, Cube, Apple TIL 86063, 7/25 [MacNN[. Time for a patch - or the end of OS X Server?
- Opinion: Will you be assimilated by the Cube?, Corby Stephens, MacInStart, 7/25. Best point: The Cube is Apple's first desktop computer that isn't over 15" tall since the Beige G3 was discontinued in January 1999. (It also has a smaller footprint than any compact Mac.)
- Opinion: A look at the Apple Pro Mouse, Nick dePlume, Think Secret, 7/25. "...a significant improvement over Apple's last mouse."

- News: iMac 350 officially discontinued, MacNN, 7/10. "The $999 Blueberry iMac has been officially discontinued...." G4/400 also in very short supply.
- Analysis: Monitor prediction falls flat, Henry Norr, SF Gate, 7/10. The expected switch to flat panel displays has been postponed.
- News: More on world's first ink-jet printed full colour light emitting polymer (LEP) display, Charles W. Moore, Applelinks, 7/10. Even if you don't understand all the details (I don't), the bottom line is cheaper flat panel displays.
- Opinion: Journalism ethics, credentials, and more perspectives, Michel Munger, MacSoldiers, 7/10.
- Opinion: An old Mac in an iWorld, David Norton, MacMiltia. "The rule of thumb when using an older Mac is to accept that you can't do everything."
