iBooks and PowerBooks seem to develop a "shadow" of the keyboard on the LCD over time, which won't come off with window cleaners such as Windex. With my iBook, it was bad enough that using the thing in direct sunlight was sometimes difficult.
I assumed this was just a function of the 'Book's age (2001 vintage) and that the screen had been scratched.
On a whim, I recently tried a lens cleaner called ROR (Residual Oil Remover) that I picked up from my local camera store - and it took the shadow off completely. My guess is the shadow is really just finger oils from the keyboard or something.
ROR is not cheap as spray on lens cleaner goes - I paid US$8 for two fluid ounces - but it's worth every dime for what it does on LCDs.
It also does a bang up job with glasses, and obviously with camera optics. Good stuff.
I don't get anything from the maker of ROR for plugging them, but I thought those who like to keep old laptops going would definitely want to check this stuff out.
