Firefox a Wonderful Browsing Experience on Mac or Windows

- 2006.08.24

The first time I heard about Firefox was from my older cousin. He explained that it was faster, better, and more secure than Internet Explorer.

This was before I got my iMac, so I was still living in the world of Windows. At that time I was still of the belief that Internet Explorer was the best you can get due to its vast popularity - until one day it took almost five minutes to load Yahoo on broadband.

I decided that I'd try Firefox, and if I didn't like it, I would uninstall it.

The first thing I liked about it was that it played nice with all my Internet Explorer bookmarks. They imported seamlessly.

The next thing I noticed was the search bar. It's very convenient, and in the first two days I added all of my favorite search engines and websites.

I also like the convenience of tabbed browsing, something Internet Explorer 6 doesn't offer.

I decided to keep Firefox as my main browser. Through research, I've learned that Internet Explorer is evil and to never trust it.

Move to Mac

Okay, enough with Windows; I'll now talk my Mac experience.

The first thing I noticed with Firefox is that it takes a few bounces longer to open than Safari. But after it's up and running, it's great.

It imported all of my bookmarks from my Windows machine nicely. Though it is not as integrated with OS X as Safari is, it's still a great browser. (Everybody has been saying good things about iCab and Camino.)

I may also try the "Made for G4" build of FireFox - that may help the startup slowness. (There are also customized versions for the G5 and Intel on the same site.)

Firefox is a great browser and I recommend it to everyone. If only they made a Firefox for Pocket PC.... LEM
