• Free Web access, even for older Macs, Rob Myers, Mac Musings. Free web access with a standard PPP connection and no extra ad banners in your brower.

2000

• Looking at OS X through Windows, Adam Robert Guha, Apple Archive. How does OS X (beta) compare with Windows 2000?
• Review: MenuChoice 2.1, Dan Knight, Classic Mac Wares. Many users still consider this five-year-old shareware superior to Apple Menu Options.

2004

• Macintels to debut at Macworld?, what to expect from Macintel, and Intel's virtualization technology arrives, The Macintel Report. Rampant speculation that Apple will unveil Macintel hardware at the Expo in January, OS X on Intel and hardware sales, and virtualization allows multiple operating systems to run concurrently.
• Apple includes nano case, iPod finger diagnosed, duct tape iPod cover, human brain on iPod, and more, iPod News Review. Also SunnComm denies plas to shatter iPod users' eardums, iPod Universal Dock info, new speakers, Tatran cable winder, new covers and cases, and new iPod software.

2006

• SATA and PCI Power Macs: No OS X joy, but you can boot OS 9, Nathan Thompson, Embracing Obsolescence. Weeks of experimention find that while you can't seem to boot a pre-G3 Power Mac into OS X from a SATA hard drive, you can at least boot OS 9 from it.
• Rare Apple II jigsaw puzzle found on eBay, Joshua Coventry, Cortland. Apple produced a jigsaw puzzle of the Apple II for its 1983 Gift Catalog, and when one showed up on eBay, who could resist?
• Mac Pro blows away competition, extended warranties crummy deals, firmware updates for Intel mini and iMac, more, Mac News Review. Also 7 free Mac maintenance utilities, dual LCD monitors, a vacuum tube amp for the iPod, and more.
• Core 2 boosts MacBook by 7%, undervolting ups battery life and drops heat, firmware update for MB and MBP, more, The 'Book Review. Also 17" MacBook Pro delays, extended warranties, making EVDO work with Parallels, MacBook Core 2 developer notes,$50 WiFi PC Card, bargain 'Books from $275 to $2,199, and more.

2008

• Free alternatives to Microsoft Office, Simon Royal, Mac Spectrum. Microsoft Office is powerful and expensive. OpenOffice provides a full alternative, and Bean and AbiWord are excellent options for word processing.
• Cruz browser introduces useful new features, Charles Moore, Miscellaneous Ramblings. Although only a 0.1 release, this new WebKit-based browser has several clever new features that just might hook you.
• DLO Action Jacket for the SanDisk Sansa, Tommy Thomas, Welcome to Macintosh. Want to protect your SanDisk Sansa MP3 player on the go? The DLO Action Jacket does a great job.
