1992
- The 33 MHz PowerBook 180 replaces
the 25 MHz PowerBook 170, is the
first 'Book with an active matrix grayscale display. The PowerBook 160 becomes the new mid-range
PowerBook.
- PowerBook Duo 210 and Duo 230 introduced. At 4.2 lb., the first
PowerBooks under the 5 lb. mark.
- Macintosh IIvx and IIvi introduced, both using a 16 MHz data
bus. This seriously crippled IIvx performance, since it had a 32
MHz CPU. The 16 MHz Mac IIvi was never sold in the U.S.

- Simple Macs for simple tasks,

classic Mac OS. For simple tasks such as writing, they can provide a
great, low distraction environment.
- 4 hits, 2 misses: 6 new Macs
introduced 15 years ago, Dan Knight, Mac Musings. The Macintosh
IIvi and IIvx are better forgotten, but the first grayscale PowerBooks
and the first PowerBook Duos moved Apple ahead.
- Leopard beautiful and unequaled,
upgrading to Leopard, Flower Power iMac 'ugly', and more, Mac News
Review. Also speeding up a sluggish Mac, what the next Mac Pro should

more.
- Apple owns 29% of high-end

- A place for the
Classic Mac OS in the Age of Snow Leopard, Simon Royal, Tech
Spectrum. Mac OS 9 has been out of production for nine years, but for
basic tasks, such as word processing and email, it provides plenty of
power.
- Preview in Snow
Leopard supports scanners and screen shots, Alan Zisman, Zis Mac.
The newest version of Preview can even use a remote scanner, creates
compact PDFs, and includes three screen capture options.
- Windows 7: Bait for
Windows XP and Vista users, Frank Fox, Stop the Noiz. While Win 7
is competing with OS X in features, it's target audience is Windows
users, not Mac users.
- Using Tex-Edit Plus and
AppleScript for HTML markup, Charles W Moore, Miscellaneous
Ramblings. Tex-Edit is a great writing tool in its own right, but
thanks to AppleScript support, it can be extended far beyond its
initial scope as a word processor.
